Emma had a go the other week. She claimed my blog was a bit, well, erm, rubbish. She was having a go at the design rather than the content. I’m sure if she were being truly honest she’d agree that the content is a bit poor too.
In fairness to her, the theme I was using for the blog was titled “minimalistic”, and, well, it did exactly what it said on the tin.
So I decided to have a go at designing my own theme. I’ve been designing websites for a few years, but until recently I had never had a go at incorporating them into WordPress, the system I and many other bloggers use. When I was given the job of creating and administrating the Original 106 Fugitive website back in March, new media genius Matt Deegan suggested to have a go at taking the design I made and putting it into WordPress to make updating the website easier for both me and other members of staff. Years had gone by where I had relied on other peoples designs in WordPress, and within the space of an hour I had managed to get one of my designs to work within the system.
With this in mind I set out at creating my own theme for my own blog. I wanted something clean, professional and clutter free, and I think I’ve created it.
The front page is a simple “who am I?” set up with links to various other parts of the site and blog. The links (or porlaroids they should be called) are pretty self explanatory.
I’m going to start adding photographs I take over on the /photographs page, and you can see when I’m next on the radio over on the /radio/schedule page.
It’s work in progess. I’ll be playing about with it over time, adding bits in and taking it out. But for now I’m quite fond of it. I’d like to know what you think, good points, bad points? Bits that don’t work, obvious errors, that sort of thing.
and Emma…. does this pass?
